Bringing Out The Best In Every Child

Computing

VISION

Our children will receive high quality teaching which will help them to develop their skills and knowledge in all areas of computing, whilst developing an appreciation of the relevance of computing in our society. They will develop their understanding of its limitations and their ability to use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly. The children will have the confidence to explore new situations and problems, to attempt to find and fix errors and create ways of solving problems.

We feel that it is important that children are equipped with the knowledge, understanding and tools they need to help them stay safe when using technology. Therefore, we start at early age teaching the children to ell a trusted adult if they see or hear something they do not like. Our lessons are carefully developed with our children and the changing world in mind. Amongst the areas explored, the children are taught how to keep their identity and personal information secure, including how to create avatars and strong passwords, how to communicate in a respectful manner online when using email, blogging etc and they are taught about the positive impacts online media and apps can have.

Through our coding units, the children have the opportunity to use scratch, coding blocks, logo and microbits. They plan and design games which incorporate different themed environments, sound and animation. They evaluate their games and make adaptions to improve the playability of the game and use QR codes to share their game.

The children also have the opportunity to use a range of data handling programs, including graphing programs, databases and spreadsheets, allowing them to explore ways in which information can be collected and presented efficiently to their audience. They learn about the uses, advantages and disadvantages of these programs in the wider world.

The children also learn how to develop podcasts, videos, aminations and presentations using a range of technology. They learn how to incorporate sound, audio, special effects and images, how to plan and edit their work whilst considering the purpose of their project.
