Reading

To ensure they continue to read their home reading book or book of their choice. This could still be from battle of the books and they would need to complete a book review.

Log on to – www.oxfordowl.co.uk – here there are a wide selection of fiction and non-fiction e-books for online reading (including phonic books and colour banded books).

The Literacy Trust virtual library publishes new stories each week. The children can listen to the stories and find out about the authors.

 

Phonics

Practise spelling of Y2 Common Exception Words which have been sent home at the start of the year showing which ones the children can/cannot read or write..

Review spelling rules already taught.

Phonic tasks will be set on a daily basis. 

 

Writing

Practise handwriting daily – children are learning how to join letters remembering clear ascenders and descenders.

Use the link to access Oak Academy. From here click on Lessons, subject, Key Stage 1, English. Then open the lessons on Recount: Diary entry. The children will then follow the sequence of lesson on this topic. 

 

Maths

Use the link to access Oak Academy. From here click on Lessons, subject, Key Stage 1, Maths. Then open Unit on addition and subtraction of 2 digit numbers. Please follow the sequence of lessons at your child's pace. 

  • Know addition and subtraction facts for numbers bonds within 10, 20 AND 100
  • Learn x2, x5 and x10 multiplication facts
  • Learn corresponding division facts for ÷2, ÷5, ÷10
  • Use maths link to download a number of reading or maths previous SATS papers https://www.satspapers.org.uk/Page.aspx?TId=4 
  • See the Maths section on Purple Mash 
  • Log onto topmarks for lots of maths games linked to different areas - www.topmarks.co.uk 
  • Work on telling the time with your child to; 
  • O’Clock, Half-Past, Quarter-Past, Quarter to. After this they learn to tell the time in 5 minute intervals.

 

Science - Plants

Use the link to access Oak Academy. From here click on Lessons, subject, Key Stage 1, Science. Then open Unit Plants and complete the lessons in the sequence. 

 

Geography - Where in the world would you like to live? (Autumn Term) and Oh I do love to be beside the seaside (Summer Term) Use the link to access Oak Academy. Then click Lessons. Subject. Key Stage 1. Geography. Open the units on seven continents (10 lessons), five oceans (10 lessons) and finally villages, town and cities (10 lessons).

History - Famous people from the past

Use the link to access Oak Academy. From here click on Lessons, subject, Key Stage 1, History. Then open the unit - why do we celebrate bonfire night and complete the lessons in this unit. 

Once these have been completed, then complete the unit on The great fire of London.
