Awards

Earlier this year we have achieved our very first Eco-School's Green flag award with merit. A huge thanks to all those who have helped us achieve this but most importantly a huge thanks to the Eco Warriors who have given up their own time to attend meetings, litter pick and plan activities for the whole school! When you see our green flag waving, remember it was those children who worked hard to achieve it and to work towards saving the environment.

Projects

We have been involved in a number of projects over the last year. here are just a few:

LCPS Eco Code

The school council developed their own Eco Code to display and share around school.

Great British Spring Clean

In March our Eco Warriors and volunteers, took part in the Great British Spring Clean.  We pledged to collect 6 bags of litter but in less than an hour we had already collected 10 bags full. The Eco Warriors also carry out regular litter picks with the help of parents and grandparents. During these litter picks, the children clear the areas around the school and surrounding area.

Earth Day
On Earth day, we learned how we can prevent any further damage to our planet. We had a guest speaker from Natural England and a visit from Hedgehog Rescue. The children made hedgehog houses, learned about reducing their carbon footprint  and delivered news bulletins about the effects of travelling to school via car.  They also donated money to The Three Owls and Hedgehog Rescue, which are both local wild life charities. The children were encouraged to walk/scoot/cycle to school as often as possible the following week.

Energy Saving.
The children were asked to think about and develop posters showing how they can save energy.  These have been displayed around school.

Bird Boxes
The school has installed 8 bird boxes around the school to create habitats for our local birds and improve our biodiversity. These were donated by the Yorkshire Area Team of natural England.
