The children will be investigating the effect that exercise has on our pulse-rates, and why our bodies need to exercise. When we look at Gases around us, the children will be carrying out a range of investigations to find out which materials trap air, and air in different soils. These investigations will develop the children’s skills of making predictions and drawing conclusions. We will be learning which gases are important to us and which gases are damaging.

We will also be learning how to search databases for information and how to refine our searches. We will also learn how to represent our data on charts and graphs.

Physical Education
The children will be focusing on gymnastics and dance this term. Both classes do games on Wednesday afternoons. During their dance lessons they will be developing their ability to respond to music depicting a variety of themes, using movements on different levels and different speeds. In gymnastics, the children will be using a combination of both floor, and apparatus work to create sequences of balances, travelling, and movements of symmetrical and asymmetric body shapes.

Art DT (Design Technology)
The children will explore the Art of Ancient Egypt, looking at the many wall paintings that the ancient tombs are so famous for. We will be painting on Papyrus, making observational drawings of Egyptian artefacts, working in groups on collage panels, and even having a go at making a canopic jar (without contents!). Towards Christmas we will designing and making biscuits as part of our Design and technology project.

Circle Time (PSHCE)
During circle time the children will be exploring and discussing topics linked with our science work. We will be talking about keeping healthy through diet and exercise and discussing peer pressure and how to make healthy choices. To do this we will be working in small groups and using role play, as well as whole class discussion. We will also work together to set individual targets for the children to work through and talking about how targets help improve our self esteem and help us to learn.
