School Sports
(June, 2006)

Netball
This year, for the first time, our school have had two netball teams. Both teams were made up of Year 5/ Year 6 children. Unfortunately, Team B did not get as many opportunities to play, as we would have liked. However, on the occasion that they did play, they beat Smithybridge very comfortably! The girls also supported our other netball team throughout the season, and this has made the school very proud.
Team A were also very successful. The first time they played competitively was at the netball rally - they put on a good show, but it wasn't enough to win. However, this did not affect their dedication, determination and enthusiasm - the team won all of their Littleborough league matches (beating Smithybridge, St Mary's and Wardle St James!). Consequently, the team played in the Roch Valley league final, but were sadly beaten by Crossgates. The girls should still be very pleased with what they achieved - they developed into a fantastic team and the final was a true example of stunning netball.

Football
This year, we have had a school 5-a-side team (Year 6 children) and two 7-a-side teams (Year 5/ Year 6 children). The school footballers have been incredibly successful throughout the year.
The 5-a-side team won the Pennine competition, held at Rochdale Football Club. They got to the final of the competition, but narrowly lost out on the title.
This success stood the lads in good stead for the Roch Valley leagues - both our A Team and B Team won the leagues (beating Newhey and Crossgates in the finals). The standard of football was superb, and the lads deserved this astounding success. Towards the end of the year, we are also hoping to have a girls 5-a-side tournament. Our school is currently working with other local schools to arrange this.

Athletics
Towards the end of the year, a selection of our Year 5 and Year 6 children will be taking part in the annual Roch Valley athletics event. This year, the event will be held at Springhill.

Rounders
Also towards the end of the year, we are hoping to hold the Roch Valley rounders rally, here at Littleborough. Rounders practice is well underway, and the team will comprise of a selection of our Year 6 girls.
