Bringing Out The Best In Every Child
Upper Key Stage 2 comprises of four classes. Classes 11 and 12 make up Year 5 and classes 13 and 14 make up Year 6. Each class has approximately 30 children of mixed ability. The classrooms are spacious and bright and benefit from computers, mobile laptop stations and reading areas. During the school day the children in upper Key Stage 2 are provided with a range of practical and first hand experiences. Whilst engaging in such activities and other lessons the children are provided with the opportunity to work with other children. They are also provided with opportunities to work closely with a teacher.
Speaking and Listening, Reading, Writing, Handwriting, Grammar, Vocabulary, Punctuation and Spelling are the main aspects of the English Curriculum. The children are also taught Mathematics. Mathematics covers the following strands: number and place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions (including decimals and percentages), measurement, geometry - properties of shapes, geometry - position and direction, ratio and proportion and algebra. The children are also taught mental maths skills and participate in problem solving and reasoning activities. The children in Key Stage 2 are also taught the subjects outlined in the National Curriculum. These subjects are Science, Religious Education, Art, Computing, Design and Technology, Geography, History, Modern Foreign Langauages, Music, PSHCE and Physical Education.
The support staff who work with children in upper Key Stage 2 are :- Ms Roddy, Mrs Blackmore, Mrs Moss and Mrs Allerly.
